it’s not necessarily that I hate the themes most prevalent in fiction set in the real world and it’s not necessarily that I don’t like stories revolving around real people or relationship drama or interpersonal issues it’s more like im a dog who doesn’t recognize that a pill is still a pill if it has peanut butter on it. I need like the little peanut butter spoonful that is aliens or robots or monsters or time travel or something fantastical and not at all down to earth real life so that you can approach me and be like “this story is about how friendships can deteriorate over time and also how this guy feels bad for being a bad friend and causing his buddy problems with their girlfriend” and then look at me making a face at you and be like “AND! they’re all aliens who are doing all that across spacetime” and I’ll be like OHHHHHH OKAY YAY (shlop shlap shlup the sound of a dog horking down peanut butter pills) wow what a poignant story

Same energy as "Betty Boop was the original vSinger".

reading an academic paper about Dark Souls that casually mentions "environmental storytelling, which was first pioneered by amusement parks," hits exactly the same as when i went on the wikipedia page for Gorillaz and the linked page for "virtual band" casually mentioned that the concept was pioneered by Alvin and the Chipmunks. truly we stand on the shoulders of giants

feeling a profound urge to wander around those forests they had in old video games where they're made up exclusively of screen after screen of picturesque pixel art glades as far as the eye can see and maybe one of them has like a forlorn well or a pedestal with a gem on it or something but essentially they're all the same

I was digging around in my shelves for Ork bits, and found my old Imperial Guard Command Squad, from the 8th Necromundan regiment.

I made these around '98-99 - the rest of the army was mostly Van Saar and Orlock gangs I'd picked up cheap second hand, plus some tanks. Had a lot of fun in the City Fight era. I still can't do faces for shit, mind

Insurance on low-probability-large-payout events can be very odd, but often makes sense purely at scale. Not surprised there are specialists, dabblers would be taking massive risks - ironically, insurance companies aren't supposed to take risks. You really want to roll so many dice you can guarantee a certain number of natural-1s. Otherwise you can't plan, you can't hedge, you're just letting someone else gamble with all of your client's fees.

As far as I can tell there's never been a wacky caper movie about committing hole in one insurance fraud, and that honestly surprises me a little.

love to get tours of architecturally award-winning buildings from the people that work there. especially libraries, for some reason. I have never seen a well-designed architectural library. highlights I have seen include:

it's mostly glass and all the panes leak (many such cases)

they forgot to account for the weight of books and now it's subsiding

it's mostly glass and therefore essentially a greenhouse. books and people studying famously love wild winter-summer temperature fluctuations

it's Round. books tend not to be

they put the radiator just under the window....which is a skylight

the only lift is for moving books, so if you can't use the stairs, you'll have to go out, use the main building lift, and come back in on another floor. doors on other floors need a special access keycard

we built this space specifically to house manuscripts but the temp/humidity control is always on the blink

the stairs/corridors are too Aesthetically Narrow and if you want to pass another person, you have to awkwardly crab shuffle past each other

there are no walls separating the library from the rest of the faculty building. no one's ever wanted a quiet study space, after all

I've not heard this version before, but it's impossible to mistake the core melody. Remarkably rich mixing, though. Guessing this is a fan cover.

one of the more bleak things to acknowledge is that if you pirate literally all of your music and then set aside a spotify subscription's worth of money each month to spend on a single pay-what-you-want album, it would almost immediately amount to you supporting those musicians more than streaming does

Pin Box
Official Trails in the Sky “Bracer Supply Box” – die-cast Orbment, Estelle’s bag, pins, art prints & more. One-run pre-order, free worldwide

This is honestly the coolest set of Trails merch I've ever seen!! I desperately wish the whole tariff BS was non-existent because, while this set is already probably too expensive to justify, the tariffs DEFINITELY destroy any chance of picking it up. Shoutouts to Pin Box for always coming through with the coolest stuff!! (I'm trying to quietly console myself with the fact I already got the Super Groupies Estelle backpack)

Further lore-accurate facts:

Gura is 9000 years old in 2025, so clearly doesn't age and tends to not die - in 40k terms, she's a "Perpetual".

Also, she's nearly as old as the Emperor (estimated creation ~8000bce), only about a thousand years between them.

You're ready to hear some heresy?

I'm fairly new to Warhammer 40k, and I just learned about Carcharodons literally a few minutes ago. And as I learned that they are a shark legion and that their origin and primarch are not confirmed I made the ultimate joke that shall now become canon in our ttrpg club.

They do indeed have their own primarch. The one that was considered disappeared and erased from history. The 2nd Primarch, the one that Emperor himself has kept a secret from all of his other children in fear that they will turn to heresy if they as much as lay their eyes upon that horrifying creature

The only daughter of the Emperor, the mother of Carcharodons...

Gawr Gura

You're Ready To Hear Some Heresy?

Emperor has always kept her a secret from the entire Imperium in fear that all of his sons and Imperial citizens will start worshipping her instead of her.

And while other Primarchs were scattered around the galaxy by their mother, Gura has been yeeted into the farthest end of the galaxy by the Emperor himself just because he knew she'd be far more beloved and worshipped than him and couldn't possibly have that

A screenshot from Bluesky: the skeet from @pinkgodzilla2.bsky.social reads: Rewatching B5 and as always appreciate the moles and fine hair fuzziness of the Centauri skull caps, especially on the fully bald female characters. The moles in particular lend such an air of realness.

JMS has reskeeted this and responds: In terms of the female bald Centauri, some of those were skull caps, and others weren't; we let it be known that we wanted to support women going through chemo or other treatments who had lost their hair by casting them here, money that could also help pay for medical bills.
A screenshot from Bluesky: @dthalliday.bsky.social's skeet reads: That is... beautiful.

JMS has re-skeeted this, adding: And beauty was the benefit. In the outside world, they might feel awkward or different, but on set, with 10-15 other bald Centauri women in beautiful gowns and dresses, their characters were much admired and desired, and they weren't different any more.
A screenshot from Bluesky: @wansfordterminal.bsky.social's skeet reads: You, Sir, are a hero. (A broken emoji image is at the end)

JMS re-skeets with: No, I just approved it, it was the folks in casting and hair and makeup who had the idea.

One of my favourite things about the setting is how Teenagers With Attitude are clearly considered a strategic resource that every nation should be developing, lest they develop an Angsty Teen gap with the Soviets.

The geopolitics of the Trails series are so funny. In Trails in the Sky SC, you have an entire chapter dedicated to figuring out who is trying to disrupt the signing of a major non-aggression pact, during which you learn a lot about the internal politics of all sides and what the treaty can and can't do. It's a really interesting chapter that teaches you a lot about Liberl's place in the world and it helps to ground the setting in a good way.

All that being said, it turns out the disruption was caused by a bored child supersoldier with a fucking gundam.

@achronalart, you often know about paint/media oddities: do you know much about Windsor & Newton Pyrrole orange/azo yellow medium? This blogger's sunset nearly got ruined by some odd-sounding clumping behaviour (though it did turn out fantastic in the end).

Look at him next to his bro. His buddy oh pal.

Look at the fabric. It took me 4 hours to finish.

My Man Is Complete. Another Knight Of The Flame To Join The Chamber Of Purity.

Look at them together.

The skull would have said hi but its shy. Maybe next time.

My Man Is Complete. Another Knight Of The Flame To Join The Chamber Of Purity.

Look at the fabric when it was still a wip.

No this post is not done yet.

I need to vent.

Because the orange and the yellow had been such a pain in my concave posterior I need a separate section on this post to adequetly describe my pain.

My Man Is Complete. Another Knight Of The Flame To Join The Chamber Of Purity.

What the fuck is going on with w&n pyrrole orange abd azo yellow medium?

Like for the realzies as the kids say. I try to thin them down, they thin fine. And after a minute of them being left untouched and unbothered they begin to clump up.

My Man Is Complete. Another Knight Of The Flame To Join The Chamber Of Purity.

I had to take this much out of the tube until I found paint that didn't have the consistency of dirt.

And at first things where fine until they began repeating bad old habbits like I didn't sqeeze the orange and yellow life out of those tubes 5 minutes ago.

So I improved.

Mixed in with glazing medium.

The paint told me to eat dirt cause it ain't gonna behave.

Mixed in with fluid medium.

The painy told me to eat [redacted] cause it ain't gonne bend to my demands.

So you know what?

I decided to turn around and tell it to bend over cause I ain't gonne give up that easily.

And the plan was for me to leave a decent glob of paint on the side thin a tiny piece of it on a different section of the palette and then apply the thinned paint immediatly before I guess the ghost of painting past comes and plays a trick on me again.

It worked.

But.

*goes very quickly to check the price of those tubes*

26€ for the pyrrole orange

18€ for the azo yellow medium

I won't even bother doing the math. Personally in my humble trashfire opinion I think that when a paint costs this much I shouldn't have to go through those painting gymnastics.

And you might say.

Wow. You are taking it way too personally bro. Calm your negative posterior and sit down.

And I will say no. Because I had to improvise on the fly and scrape off paint clumps from my mini and the blending was almost ruined four times because the paint gained the consistency of a dehydrated husk.

🧘‍♂️

Imma calm myself now.

My boy came out well. The trials and tribulations were part of the journey.

The patience cultivation is needed because the future projects will be far more intense.

An auto-scrivener from Warhammer 40k.
A long scroll hangs from a mounting near the cyborg's chest as his spindly robot arms scribble on it with quill pens. The scroll's writing is illegible save for a few capital letters in red marking the start of sections. Rolled up scrolls hang from his waistband.
A bounty hunter from Warhammer 40k.

A hunch-back mutant dressed in rags. His skin is sickly yellow-green, and his rags are brown leather mixed with batches of rusty metal. His face is entirely masked and swathed in bandages.
He carries a wicked-looking catch-pole and a brightly coloured web-gun for capturing the Wanted alive. Several rats dart beneath his beast-like legs, and another perches atop his back, as though watching for enemies behind.
An unpainted rogue doc from Necromunda.

A mix of modern and medieval styles, this crow-masked doctor is pulling on her gloves and preparing for impromptu surgery. Various vicious-looking medical instruments hang from a rack mounted on her back, and in one hand she has a hacksaw.

Been working on my Necrorando collection, making fun little folk to hang out in the underhive. Most recently I have painted an auto-scrivener (unnamed) and a mutant Bounty Hunter ('the Rat-Catcher'), and built an ex-Escher Rogue Doc mixing AoS and Necromunda bits. Particularly happy with the Auto-scribe's scroll-work. Nothing fancy since the writing is all sculpted detail on the original model, but a few drops of red ink have done a lot of work!

God damn, toskarin. how long did this take you? Excellent work, the point is made perfectly. Reblogging in awe.

/hj is the funniest earnest tonetag in the world even without the handjob joke because it's ostensibly meant to clarify tone for autistic people, but the tone it's clarifying is "unreadable level of ambiguous seriousness that requires social context beyond what text can convey /glhffgt"

When I was a kid, me and my friends would have all these "random" conversations, riffing off each other's bullshit about all sorts of dumb shit. I thought I was holding my own, but always a little in awe of my friend's inventiveness. Years later, I saw The Holy Grail for the first time, and realised I was the only one who thought that we were in a riff session.

I'm pretty sure that any two sufficiently good-looking gen Z kids could make it on TikTok by making videos that are 100% word-for-word re-enactments of Monty Python skits, and the whole audience who has never heard of the flying circus in their lives would lose it over such fresh and original material.

Disney: ok you can use mickey mouse, but- Nomura: Michael is now a Flawed Warrior King with a reckless past who is not exactly forthcoming wrt to the truth. He makes critical mistakes like leaving people behind in the realm of darkness but also takes the nearest troubled teenagers under his wing at every possible opportunity. He is always trying to make up for how he’s erred but despite keeping a fairly level head is sometimes consumed with thoughts of vengeance when his friends are threatened. Also he says it’s not only okay to be gay but that the capacity for such strong love is the source of your power–

Man I love Unital Ring.

Just- the simple symbolism and themes. It's protecting the house and giving back to it that forms the basis of everything else. Kirito and Asuna never abandon their relationship, we all know that, but the addition of Alice and the question of time and damage from the Underworld make the audience wonder. Are the old wounds healed? Are the doubts from Moon Cradle addressed?

Yes. The house is damaged, but standing, and it's the help of everyone to bring it back to it's full strength. Liz and Silica believe in the strength of their friends; and Yui the love of her parents. It's the sacrifice of one of Kirito's swords that gives them the tools they need to go further, and the journey to help a friend that finishes the job as Sinon brings the last ingredients to help and the aid to protect their home. With her coming and completing the home, a cabin in the woods begins it's transformation to Rua na Rig.

We all know the old yarn. For want of a nail, the horseshoe was lost. For want of a shoe, the messenger was lost. For want of a messenger, the battle was lost. For want of a battle, the war was lost.

Here, though? Now?

For love of a wife, the bear was fought. For love of a family, the raiders were fought. For love of a friend, a wall was crossed. For love of a home, a town was born. For love of a town, the witch was fought.

The next book of Unital Ring is coming out soon. I, for one, want to see what else Reki thinks love might build.
