Prompt: one day, when Arthur is being particularly pratish about how Merlin is a servant and should learn to better behave like one, Merlin answers him mockingly with a "yes, master"

Merlin didn't intend to ever call him "master" again, except he notices how Arthur's face turns a dark shade of red and Arthur dismisses him for the rest of the day, barely making coherente sentences

From that day on, Merlin waits for the best situations in which he should call Arthur "master" again. Those are: in front of the knights, visiting nobles and his father, in the middle of feasts and banquets, just before Arthur enters a tournament, and, obviously, just before Merlin bends down to pick up clothes from the floor in Arthur's chambers

And then, one day, Arthur just snaps

Yknow, it's mighty convenient that the Round Table already had the precise number of chairs they needed in "The Coming of Arthur".

Like, imagine if they show up at the Castle of Ancient Kings and Arthur's prepared his fancy pre-battle speech about equality, but there's only 8 chairs and 9 people. What are you gonna do, make Percival stand? Tell Leon to squat down so it looks like he's sitting in a chair? Let Merlin sit on the the table? Have Lancelot sit in Elyan's lap? Watch Gwaine dangle from the chandelier? Ask Gwen to sit on the floor? Play musical chairs and the one who loses doesn't get to be knighted?
