I loved the line "I thought that was non-diagetic" I love the implication that the Doctor has been able to hear the theme all this time but decided they didn't need to know about all that
Love that fifteen is a swearer let it out king you deserve to say shit every now and then. As a treat
I like how he's had 2 speeches about timelords having funny names just to casually mention his grand daughters name is just. Susan. Cmon Ruby call him out on that.
Not the Fifteenth Doctor info-dumping like crazy, calling Gallifrey “posh,” listing the Rani and the Bishop but not the Master, and then immediately asking Ruby to fly with them
The Master listening from their golden tooth:
Can we take a second to appreciate that from John and Paul’s point of view they wondered off through their recording studio, found a piano with some funny looking notes floating above it, played a little tune a whim, gave each other a gay little side glance before the piano flew away into the next room followed by intense screaming and then their entire reality turned into a musical and they received no explanation for any of it?
Tho to be fair it was the 60s, they were probably high as a kite and were used to this kind of thing by now
wait we still don't know who grabbed the tooth
Interesting that the Doctor says his adopted family is the reason he uses a title. Except thats not quite true is it?
Sure they are stuffy aristocrats who love ranks and titles but Tecteun, Rassilon, Borusa, Romana, Pandad, Andred, Rodan, Darkel, Flavia, and practically every other non-renegade timelord (and even some renegades like Drax) still use regular (if not human) names.
But you know who does often use titles? THE GODS. Those from before or beyond the universe's constraints. The Toymaker, The Guardians, The Maestro, The Trickster, The The Beast, The One Who Waits, The Gods of Ragnarok, The Entity, etc. Even those with 'names' often have descriptive ones like Time or Swarm.
Is it really the Doctor's adopted family that made them identify with titles? Or is it perhaps traces of their 'birth family' peaking through?
More than anything I just want to know if RTD is going anywhere with this. Did he just need a quick way to get new audiences on board with calling the main character the Doctor? Or does it mean something.
The Doctor still doing the whole "last of the Time Lords" thing is so funny
#breaking the fourth wall
it feels like this season, doctor who is dealing with the fundamental rules changing. it was strictly sci-fi, you could always logic your way out of any problem with technobabble and a clever plan.
but it feels like so much of the plot is wrapped around poking at the medium of being a television show, of being a story. we have multiple characters looking at the viewers, we have the maestro playing the theme tune, we have such clear parallels to season 1 (2005) that it feels like a universal coincidence. like the whoniverse itself is recognizing its a medium and playing with its tropes.
the genre is changing too - we are leaning more and more into fantasy, rules like you would see in stories about fae, not sci-fi. musical numbers out of nowhere that no one seems to question, with rain inside and musical sidewalks. the vocabulary of rope and power in coincidences. hell, even the way that time travel works is changing! suddenly stepping on a butterfly (specifically a trope in scifi that has been mocked/debunked previously) has consequences. the doctor swiping away the translation circuit's effects with the wave of a hand and breathing life back into a creature without breaking a sweat.
not to mention the way that space babies foreshadows to a universe that creates a story with all the ingredients it knows are supposed to be there (re: bogeyman - there's supposed to be a villain so it made one)
something IS going on. there is a bigger player - bigger than tecteun, bigger than the toymaker. could it be rtd just having a grand ole time using canon as is playground? maybe. but i hope it's something cool.

intense discussion going on at wikipedia
Nine would have thought Martha Jones was the coolest person in the world. Doesn’t even matter where in the timeline this was or what happened to Rose, he would have loved her leather jacket and her hairstyle. He would have loved that she was a DOCTOR! Her studying to be a doctor was so overlooked and he would have loved it. He would have thought she was the coolest person alive. Nine and Donna would have killed each other on sight
i love that ncuti gatwa's doctor is (thus far) a gentle sunlight soul who rolls with the punches
i also cannot wait to see what he's like when he's pissed
Nooooooo 😭 that's horrible!
I don't WANT them to bring back Tennant whenever they want! I want them to just let Gatwa have the chance everyone else has gotten!!!
They'll probably tie up the loose end whenever they think the publicity's dropping enough for them to bust out Tennant again :/ which could be any time they want.
Does the whole 'bigeneration' thing as an introduction for Ncuti Gatwa make anyone else feel icky? Because I definitely feel like they did Gatwa dirty with a botched transition between regenerations because people are getting a liiiiiiittle too nostalgic with the whole RTD/Tennant thing.
Tennant is a brilliant actor, and I'm not trying to downplay everything he's done for the show, but by leaving Tennant alive, they robbed Gatwa of an introduction that shows respect to his iteration of his character, instead leaving him to be the Random New Person while The Real Doctor is yet to come into the completion of his arc.
It's just a disappointing diversion from giving Gatwa's Doctor the focus and development he deserves.
I mean, I kind if just assumed that there would be??
Because surely they wouldn't fumble the ending THAT badly without trying to give it closure. I mean, if they're trying to keep Tennant for the Christmas special (which is what I'm assuming they're aiming for), it makes sense that they'd use the Christmas special to A) finish Tennant's arc, B) have a 2nd regeneration for funsies, and C) tie up loose ends by killing Tennant once and for all.
I was just assuming that the 'bigeneration' thing was a bit of a fakeout, kind of like Tennant's other fakeout regen when he was shot by a dalek that one time.

yeah we put your girl in the fandom and they villainized her beyond comprehension. yeah sorry they took out all the nuance and made the argument completely black and white. yeah my bad. we can’t reverse it. sorry.
God season one of nuwho is so. Your budget is a half-eaten cheese sandwich. Your props department is the rubbish tip behind the BBC studio offices. You may use one (1) cgi, and also photoshop that is exceedingly bad even for 2005. And its one of the best seasons of television ever made
The best thing about old doctor whos is they are all just random uncles that the press drags out of retirement so they can give iconic takes like this
Doctor Who Theory: Tennant isn't the 14th Doctor. The change is a result of The Celestial Toymaker (NPH's character) messing with him. This is a reference to a scrapped storyline from the regeneration of the First Doctor, where originally the Toymaker was the one responsible for the change.
The real 14th Doctor is trapped inside the Doctor's mind (we can see him there in the promo).
Donna should get the Doctor's number and be allowed to call the TARDIS randomly in future episodes for no reason. never aliens. no more aliens for Donna. always just some bullshit like "my mum told me the pink blouse makes me look washed out????" and the Doctor has to be like "girl! she's crazy! but also I'm actively being shot at right now so I will have call you back"
people don’t spray paint “bad wolf” in cryptic areas like they used to
