I'm rejecting the narrative where umbrella academy takes place in one of those Out of Time worlds because like. just THINK of the online freakout that would've happened when Vanya dropped her book. that would have been the That Bitch(tm) moment of the millennium. #ReginaldHargreevesIsOverParty would have been trending world wide. the DISCOURSE over her siblings actions that would have been started....and they're always going on about how she exposed family secrets but we don't even know what the secrets were! anyway here's some shitty memes I imagine would pop up on twitter after her book came out
Allison: So, Vanya, do you have a crush on anyone?
Vanya: The only crush I have is this crushing anxiety.

Luther is standing closer to Allison but also Pogo and R*ginald, which we already know that he was closest to those three.
Allison is standing next to Luther and Klaus. Klaus and Allison definitely had little sleepovers in each other’s rooms as kids.
Diego is standing away from everyone else and is standing by Grace, which shows he was probably only nice to Grace. We know he is a Mama’s boy but it is Grace, who wouldn't be?
Klaus is far from the adults so he probably only spent time with his siblings. I feel like his relationship with Ben was just him annoying Ben, while he was trying to read.
Vanya is not standing next to anyone but the coffin and an empty space. This is to show she is fully alone now that Ben and Five are gone.

Fair warning, this is gonna be a ramble!
So I was just thinking about Vanya, and how sort of sweet and polite she was in the first season, and that got me thinking.
I fully believe Vanya is autistic, and from my own experiences, I was thinking about growing up. When I was a child I didn’t really know how to interact with the world. I grew up watching a lot of TV shows and movies (mostly ones that my sister would put on) but before I mirrored TV shows characters, I mirrored her. But Vanya didn’t watch TV growing up, so she didn’t have Disney Princesses or Thomas the Tank Engine or Arthur like I did. (For anyone who doesn’t know, mirroring is one of the ways that autistic kids may learn to interact with the world, through watching how NTs interact and then mimicking it to fit in or at the very least to be able to communicate with someone.)
The only people Vanya had to mirror were her family, and given their general attitude towards her it seems unlikely that she did. When I was a child I recognised which behaviours I never wanted to mimic: my parents screaming at each other or us, my sister telling me if I didn’t do what she wanted she’d never love me again/she’d hate me for the rest of our lives. I knew those things made me feel bad, so I knew they weren’t things I wanted to do to others.
In the same way, I think Vanya knew she didn’t want to mimic the negative behaviours of her siblings. So I think the person she mirrored most was Grace (and maybe Pogo a little). Grace was their mum, she was loving and nurturing and exactly the kind of person I would have wanted to mirror as a child. Except Vanya has added insecurities. It made me realise that growing up, Vanya was often softly-spoken and polite, because that’s how Grace was. But we never see Grace get angry... So Vanya never learned a healthy way of dealing with her anger, especially given that she was drugged up a lot of her childhood.
If anyone can word this more coherently than I did, or come up with a better analysis, please do, because I’m not sure my argument made much sense (or even had a point to it...?)
TL;DR - Autistic!Vanya mirrors Grace, and that’s why her personality is somewhat reminiscent of Grace’s.

How I would open tua season 3
If they used the alternate selves in the timeline:
Dark stage. The Umbrella Academy theme starts playing (the one Vanya plays on her violin in season 1 episode 1) except with an electric guitar.
We don’t see the face, just hands playing on a dark stage.
Cut to the plant from Luther’s moon base. Pull out to reveal it is one of many plants Alternate!Luther is tending to. He has his body before the accident, he’s in the sunshine, he’s happy.
Cut to scene of the family being robbed. Same as before, a man in the shadows saves them. This time we see his police badge before we see Alternate!Diego’s face (free of scars.)
(And yes before you ask his charatcer arc in season 3 will be realizing how terrible the police force is.)
Alternate!Allison walks down a red carpet. Cameras flash. Pull up, the carpet is just a hallway. A little girl runs up and hugs her: Claire. She picks her up and they smile together for a camera. The camera is lowered revealing Patrick.
An orchestra’s rehearsal room. We see musicians taking their seats, readying their instruments. We don’t see Alternate!Vanya until we get to the front of the room. There she stands, baton in hand. She isn’t a musician, she’s the conductor. The music laid out in front of her is titled The White Violin- Vanya “last name.”
Sparrow!Ben in his uniform. He stands in front of the paparazzi, covered in flecks of flood. His team stands behind him. They’ve just saved another bank.
Each time we see a sibling, their number pops up just like the first episode of season 1, but then is crossed out and replaced with the same first name but different last names.
Cut back to the guitar on stage. Again, the musician is kept in shadow but more sound filters in. There’s a shouting audience. More lights, smoke, a band appears behind the guitar player.
Similar to the first episode we then flash over to each (ex) sibling watching a news story but this time it’s of the (new) Hargreeves foiling the bank robbery. Each looks on with a flicker of confusion, but then shake their heads. It’s nothing, it’s normal. They just imagined the sense of deja vu.
Final scene is of the stage, this time with a full band behind the guitarist and a cheering audience. We pan up to see Alternate!Klaus holding the guitar. At the crescendo the crowd goes wild. He holds the note and smiles at the audience, happy with the performance.
We follow Klaus walking backstage. His band clap him on the back. He turns a corner to find:
A portal opens. Our Five tumbles through.
