Apparently a part of the reason why farmed bees stay in the beehives that humans build for them is because the farm hives are safer and sturdier. I don't know how a busy Discord server's worth of bugs that only have one brain cell each would logically conclude that the humans protect them from outside threats, illness and parasites, but if I understood right, the bees would be free to move away and build a new nest somewhere else any time they'd want, and they simply choose not to.
You know how in almost every culture, people have some concept of "if I sacrifice something that I made/grew/produced to the Gods, they will ward me and my harvest from evil"?
So, in a way, don't the bees willingly sacrifice a part of their harvest to an entity not only far greater than them, but nearly beyond their comprehension, in exchange for protection against natural forces wildly outside of their own control?
So tell me, beekeepers, what are you to your bees, if not a mildly eldritch God?
and this is why baseball is the best sport (see also: these baseball sidequests)
Today in class we were watching a historical drama and there was a cut away to a garden filled with bees and it reminded me of when I was a kid and on some days we couldnāt mow the lawn because of the ground bees but now my bee garden that Iāve had the last several years is usually bee free and now my head hurts remembering this memory again
@moonthemagical look it's bees
Okay, entomology brain is annoyed by a Tumblr ad
Specifically, this one. First, Albert Einstein never said that.
Secondly, and more importantly, that is NOT a honey bee, or even a bee at all. That is a bee fly, a very important, very cute pollinator. However! They have parasitoid larvae! This means that they lay their eggs in the larvae of other bugs. Those eggs hatch, and those larvae eat the bug theyāre in from the inside out. Sounds horrible, but itās the way of things and I cannot understate how important these guys are.
The reason Iām annoyed about the picture of choice isnāt even that they didnāt picture a bee (not even in the right order- bees are hymenopterans. Flies are diptera.) Whatās really grinding my absolute gears about the choice here? Bee flies parasitize bee larva.
If youāre going to use the wrong picture, at least donāt use the picture of something that actively kills what youāre trying to protect instead of the animal youāre protecting.
Also, honeybees, Apis mellifera, donāt need protection. Theyāre fine. Theyāre invasive in North America, even. Humans take care of them just fine. Iām a beekeeper, and I love them, but thatās not where our efforts should be. We should be trying to protect native bees, there are a whole bunch that I bet youāve never heard of that need help.
Anyway, rant over. Sorry, I just could not let that one go.
tw there's a photo of a bee. bee aware. haha get it get it GET I
just putting this out there, i hate the stigma against carpenter bees.
"but they burrow in wood and ruin your house!" skill issue, my house is already in the trenches (constantly dirty for no reason, no ventilation, the floor is broken in quite a few spots, etc.)
"but they can still bite and sting you!" erm, ackshually š¤ males don't have stingers. plus, the females typically aren't aggressive and only sting if absolutely necessary. and also, if they can bite, why do they like to sniff my hair when i go outside and bumble around just like their cousins?
(picture taken by u/formal-constant2818 on r/entomology)
like, come on. these little guys are absolutely adorable. i don't care about the structural integrity of your house, how can you hate these little fellas? i used to be fucking terrified of bees until i learned that the carpenter bees around my house literally just act tough and can't hurt you for shit

CW: artistic nudity!
And also anthropomorphic(?) bee (Mostly human)
Sorry if my handwriting is bad. Her name is Deliah and goes by She/He/Bee!!! Bee is a transbian that has a paper wasp boyfriend!!! (it calls him bee-utiful all the time) His nicknames include Buzzy bee, Honey, buzz, Eli, Lilah, and beebee!!
Haha get it. Transbian. TransBEEan. More like uhhhh transbien!!!
I love fat women!!!! Five billion more years of fat, queer, gnc beauties!!!!!! Five billion I say!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, um, I know that wasps are generally known as the jerks of the insect world, but just so you guys know, they do give a little back.
For example.....
1) They eat bugs. Yay! Less leaf beetles eating your crop!
2) They pollinate figs. MmmMmmm. I like fig Newtons. I want them to continue long into the future.
3) They carry yeast in their bodies which helps allow the yeast to survive the winter. In case you didn't know, yeast ferments grapes and is used for baking. AKA next time you have some wine or enjoy some leaven bread, begrudgingly thank a wasp.
I'm not saying that you have to like them. Heck no. Wasps are scary; howeeeever, just like the wonderful bee, they help provide us with some amazing things.

What dinosaur (preferably from the cretaceaus period I think it was) do you think Liam from Dino squad would be if he somehow ended up with the same DNA mishap as the others?
I think oviraptor for narrative purposes (think modern remake with accurate dinos) as oviraptors were mistaken to be egg thieves, when they were merely minding their own business, nesting and brooding
I think it'd be cool if In an episode , the group occasionally made jokes about the egg eating, and Liam got irritated over time because the jokes were inaccurate, and they weren't listening to him about this. In the episode, he could have some character growth where he learns to communicate better because the others are willing to work with him, and he establishes boundaries. I think it'd be nice.
the mutated animal(s) of the episode (in my remake au thingy, the animals revert back to their cretateous evolutionary ancestor) would be escaped from a zoo, and they'd use liams knowledge on certain animals to help them (in my mind, he has a hyperfixation on insects in general, but a special interest in weevils. Weevils need love too.)
liam and buzz begin to get along better due to their shared interest in insects
In my mind, my version of Liam has a phobia of being alone and/ or useless to his friends. He feels like he needs to be useful, or he panics and stresses internally. He also helps bees and his back garden is a haeven for insects (unless they're invasive or otherwise harmful)
For some reason, I'm irrationally irritated at the letter p being in orange when surrounded by parentheses ()
Power Outage #76 Believe It!
Power Outage #76 Unbelievable!!!Ā Ā
me, in april: wow i canāt wait to waste my junior year indoors and get outside once quarantine ends!
may:
i just remembered ctubbo used to be associated with bees i havent thought about tubbo and bees in like forever
Happy easter to those who celebrate! My mom added little marshmallow bees and i traded litterally all of my candies for these and now i have The Hive!!
The idea that hive minds in sci-fi have queens or some other central apparatus like a mother ship makes no sense at all. That completely defeats the purpose of a hive mind, which is decentralization.Ā
It speaks to kind of society we live in where itās generally assumed that unity is achieved through domination only.Ā

Male bee's dont have stinges?
Barry is trans confirmed?
(it was literally the first thought to come to mind)
also The Bee Movie seems quite afriad of female bee's it seems- despite the fact that Beee colonies and nature is quite dependant on the female species of animals (in terms of mitosis, not meiosis).
Boycott the Bee Movie again
Latest painting! What do you think?
