I was boread out of my mind yesterday so I decided to put Dazai and Chuuya's names into an incorrect quote generator. Here's the funniest stuff I gathered.
One of my favorite things about soukoku is that seperatedly, they could be that vicious and manipulative detective and that cold blooded, fear inducing mafia executive. They can totally act calm and composed when they want to. But put them in the same vicinity and they become the dumbest most unhinged, insufferable five year olds.
Ok but is your reaction after consuming any new piece of media "Oh that was very nice!... I wonder if there are any soukoku AUs of that on Ao3" or are you normal?
Ok so, imagine this: Dazai danceing with Sigma was another one of his wierd ways of thinking (just like rolling on the ground) and Chuuya knows of this habit damn well. Now that they know Fyodor is alive they need another grand plan so this happens:
"Chuuya dance with me!" "Huh, what makes you think that I would ever wanna dance with you shitty mackerel?" "But how else am I supposed to think?" "Ugh, genius they say. I'm the only one who sees how stupid you are, I'm telling you, I'm cursed!" "Chuuya is no fun, if it were Kunikida kun I'd tell him it was good for the brain stimuly and he would've grabbed me by my waist immidiately." "Really, and would your Kunikida kun also succeed at pulling a vampire act on the anemic bastar as well?" "And look where that little plan of yours got us." "Oh, but you were so pleased with yourself back at the rooftop, YoU cAnNoT kiLl mE blah, blah, blah" "Chuuya is so childish!" "YOU CALL ME CHILDISH -" Dazai sits on the groud, ready to start rolling "Oh, fuck no, I can't go through this again!" Chuuya pulls Dazai up and they start danceing. Dazai immediately starts humming a tune. After just mare seconds the duo is in complete sync, after a few more seconds, their gazes are locked onto eachothers. While Dazai was hard at thinking, Chuuya unwillingly found himself analyzing each and every detail in his partner. Have his eyes always been this bright? Have his cheeks always been this pink? Chuuya is just about to fugure out wich song is Dazai humming when the mackerel in question stops abruptly. "I can't think, Chuuya is too distracting" "I LITERALLY DIDN'T SAY A WORD!"

Mori: [Sobs.]
Kouyou: Say goodbye, Chuuya.
Chuuya: Goodbye.
Kouyou: Goodbye…?
Chuuya: Dazai.
Mori: [Nudges DAZAI]
Dazai: *whines* Boss.
Mori: Dazai!
Dazai: Goodbye, chibi.
Mori: All these years of planning… Wasted!
[KOUYOU and CHUUYA leave]
Oda: What else is there? He says, “Is beauty all that matters?” And you say, “What else is there?!”
Dazai: It was dumb, I know.
Oda: You should write a book. ‘How to Offend Men in Five Syllables or Less’.

Dazai: You and Akutagawa spend a lot of time together, don't you?
Atsushi: We do, yes. Uh, but we're just temporary partners. I mean, we're not, you know ...
Dazai: He's an attractive guy, nice bone structure, hypnotic eyes, etc.
Atsushi: I guess so?
Dazai: Have you noticed how uptight he's been lately?
Atsushi: Uh, l-like I said, we're partners, so ...
Dazai: Partners should help each other out, relieve some of that stress. Maybe extend that partner relationship.
Atsushi: Extend? Um ... I-I don't ...
Dazai: You're two attractive people. Any thoughts on how to alleviate that stress?
Atsushi: We could ... we could go for more walks?
Dazai: Walks are good. Walks are nice. I was thinking, since you're already partners, you could extend that relationship ... become the other kind of partners.
Atsushi: Are you ... are ...
Dazai: I am.
Atsushi: Y ... Dazai-san ...
Dazai: Everybody wins.
Atsushi: Th-this is sexual harassment. You know that, right?
Dazai: I think of it as sexual encouragement.

It’s funny how the characters idealize each other was reversed in real life like Fyodor was inspired by Nikolai and Akutagawa inspired Dazai and so many more.
“Does Chuuya believe that Dazai is human?”
someone on twitter proposed this question, specifically referencing this scene*:
this scene is so interesting because Dazai is pretending he doesn’t care about what Shibusawa is doing. he’s pretending he does care about reaching executive. he’s pretending he doesn’t have a plan.
everything he does in this scene is intentional, to set Chuuya on track for his plan to take down Shibusawa… which includes riling him up.
yes, Chuuya believes Dazai is human— that’s precisely why it’s such a sensitive subject for Chuuya. he projects onto Dazai what he’s scared of becoming because Dazai is a mirror for Chuuya. when Chuuya looks at Dazai, he sees parts of himself that he tries to ignore staring back at him. (the same is true for Dazai— Chuuya is his mirror)
so Dazai sees this topic as an easy way to get Chuuya mad— to storm off & leave him alone for a few days so that Dazai can go get himself captured (so that Chuuya will have to come save him, putting him in the perfect position to use Corruption & end the conflict once and for all).
but when Chuuya realizes Dazai’s plan (like he always does), he sees through Dazai’s front. honestly part of the reason he’s always so annoyed when he gets to Dazai is probably in part because Dazai keeps pretending to be heartless when he’s really not. Chuuya doesn’t understand why Dazai lets people think he’s “bad” when, in reality, he’s doing something good.
so actually, Chuuya is one of the few people who sees and knows that Dazai isn’t heartless.
he does care.
he is human.
Chuuya’s own projection just gets in the way of him remembering that most of the time (which is totally understandable considering his backstory & the fact that he’s only a kid).
*just for reference, the official translation’s version of those panels reads:
“Well, that was mean of you. I’m human too, you know?”
“Like anyone believes that. Just be glad I didn’t kill you.”
