Those aren’t the only songs he has to fill the silence.
Even as his voice cracks, he begins campfire songs learnt on lazy nights with his friends. Each had brought different songs they’d picked up throughout their travels, and were a way to share some of their culture, their family.
If c!dream closes his eyes, he can pretend that the lava is instead the crackling flames of their campfire. But no matter how hard he tries to delude himself, he can never conjure up his friends voices joining him in song.
The musical tapestry he weaves is stitched with memories of those he loves, a blanket he wraps around himself, that only serves to remind him that he’s alone.
C!dream is raised by c!puffy on her ship, around raucous sailors who regale him with tales of their adventures, who sing together horribly off key, and his childhood lullabies were the songs sung by his shipmates.
C!dream sings sea shanties alone in his cell to fill the silence.
And he wonders where his family, where his mother, have gone.
The tunes don’t sound the same when sung by one voice that trembles with unshed tears.
