So about that new light, and who they chose as center figure for that.
A while back the Mormons got flack on this site for their skin lightening teaching. Well, the Jehovah’s Witnesses deserve as much if not more flack for their racism.
For anyone out of the loop, the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe paradise will emerge on the planet itself after Armageddon, after which everyone who wasn’t preached to in all of history is revived to be preached to. They recently slightly changed it to mean that the sinners can’t actually commit new sins during the thousand year trial period, and they made a whole video display about that.
The change is trivial, but what’s really jarring is this character.
We’ve seen this guy before in previous propaganda; he was one of a lineup of revived people shedding their culture. The rest of the line up is gone, he’s central now and he’s got an additional African indigenous man and a conquistador, all resurrected, as backdrop.
He’s reborn in his traditional clothing and with the longer hair, but minus his decorations; things that are considered sinful for a man to wear who are to be without any decoration, and even for a woman as they’re bright and take in addition rather than being subtle.

Like this white guy being genocidal towards native people and the native guy … dancing shirtless and with ornaments around a fire as part of a (very badly replicated) cultural custom. Sure, Watchtower Society, those are definitely, clearly the same kind of horrible, vile things. Definitely. /sarcasm

Imagine being murdered by one of those schools, waking up to a strangely paved over, unnatural version of the world you knew, and be told that the Christianity they made you convert to was wrong, and you have to convert to this other type of Christianity in this new school or you will be killed again.
That’s what Jehovah’s Witnesses hope and pray for : that they get to reenact global colonization with the backing of supernatural forces.

I'm very happy this month.
It's really crazy to realize that, in a way covid is the best thing that ever happened to me. To be clear, the pain and death caused by the pandemic is in no way worth the small gains it circumstantially brought me but that's why it's weird to think about.
I don't know when or if I ever would have recognized the parental and spiritual abuse I was dealing with, if the pandemic didn't make it more apparent and me less busy. I might not have been able to do my internship that led to my job offer because of the distance and my then lack of a license. I wouldn't have the funds I need to move out unless my internship was virtual and interest was paused on federal student debt. I might have been too scared to leave those I knew in the cult, but because of lack of in person events I was able to mostly distance myself.
Even now it can suck ass. I'm stuck with these abusers nearly 24/7 and can't see anyone who actually cares for me. I'm terrified about getting Covid and increasingly disgusted by the lack of government response. So knowing how all this awful stuff has helped me, and also other people in groups like this brings me a small comfort. It will never be a fair trade but it's something positive.

I know I go on fuck terf rampages every couple of months, but it's really alarming how many people in the ex cath and Christian tags have "terfs dni" in their bio and yet interact with and reblog posts from terfs!!
it can be hard to spot dogwhistles, but if you consider yourself an ally to trans women you have to make the effort. here are my tips for spotting terfs:

If on desktop, download shinigami eyes. This is a browser extension that shows transphobic people in red, and trans allies in green.
Block the tags "radical feminism", "gender critical", and "terf safe". when these posts pop up on your feed, you can usually find a whole chain of terfs to block.
red flags in bios: excessive use of the word female; the word goddess; most mentions of vagina, vulva, or womb; the phrase "gender critical"; mentions of pagan goddesses (more on this below)
i have less than 100 followers on this blog, so i understand that this is not viable for people with larger followings, but if you take 30 seconds to search the word "trans" on a new follower's blog, you see either positive or negative posts about trans people.
another common red flag i see a lot is defensiveness over whiteness. i saw a post recently in the ex christian tag that said "well i am white and live in a predominantly white area but i am still oppressed by the patriarchy!!" and when i went to her blog she ticked off every point on this list.
i specifically mentioned pagan deities earlier. i know that a lot of people, once they have left christianity, jump into pagan religions and they find a lot of solace in them. most of these people are fine. but there is so much rampant transmisogyny, misognoir, and antisemitism in the pagan and witchcraft community, that anyone who advertises this on their blog instantly becomes a red flag to me (and I'm usually right).
I really implore everyone in the ex christian and ex catholic community here on tumblr to start taking action, and start blocking terfs. don't engage, don't argue with them, DO NOT GIVE THEM A PLATFORM, just block them, tell your friends to block them, and move on.

Despite the threat of hellfire for being gay, I was more averse to the idea of attraction to men than women because men were supposed to strip me of my autonomy, safety, humanity. Because 'husband' was a synonym for tyrant. At least, this is what I was taught, as if it was the right and only thing.
