I love how all the siblings learn that Diego got put in a mental hospital and they’re all just like ‘not surprised’ and THEN they find out he got put in there for trying to kill lee Harvey Oswald and they’re all just like ‘not surprised’
my favorite thing to do right now is imagine the hargreeves children on saturdays from noon to half past noon
When Five first jumped into the future and found himself in the apocalypse and found his siblings’ bodies at the mansion, he wouldn’t have found Ben’s body but wouldn’t know why.
Do you think he stayed there a while, picking through the rubble, searching for a body that wasn’t there, just to make sure, wondering what it meant? Do you think that for a while he held on to this tiny crazy speck of hope that maybe, someway, somehow, Ben had survived? His body wasn’t at the mansion so maybe he’s still out there. Maybe he wasn’t alone, maybe he had one sibling left if he could just find him somehow.
But then of course he would have found Vanya’s book. And he learned that Ben wasn’t the lucky one, just the opposite. And Five’s smart and he’s practical. From the beginning he’d known that there was almost no chance of Ben still being alive. He’d just wanted so very badly to believe.
That’s a turning point for Five. That moment when he knows for certain that his brothers and sisters– all of them– are dead. And he is utterly alone. And the only thing that matters, is changing that.
This has probably been said before, but doing your best doesn’t always mean giving 100%. Sometimes you’re only able to give 50% and that’s okay because at the time that was the best you could do
au where Ray, Sissy and Harlan come back to the future with the academy and Klaus makes a big event of locking everyone in the library and giving a ridiculous powerpoint that’s like ‘How To Speed Run The Past 70 Or Whatever Years’ (Five from where he’s been handcuffed to the bar: “it’s 55 you dumbass-). highlights include:
- opening with a picture from the jfk assassination (since they were all a little busy when that was going on) with a big :( drawn over it
- a fifty minute long side-tracked rant about the Vietnam war that only Five is interested in
- “And finally, after a long, painful battle for the sensible people of the world…the Beatles were Defeated”
- “Highlight this note because it WILL be on the test later- Britney Spears was born on December 2nd, 1981″
- “So one day in 1989 43 babies with magic powers were born from women who hadn’t been pregnant, and like? you know? no one ever really looked into that further? we’re in our 30s, I feel like we should have some answers by now?’
“Speaking of 1989, there’s this fantastic album-”
Vanya: “Klaus they don’t need to know who Taylor Swift is-”
Diego: “Let Him Speak.”
- “And on this day I was innocently reading a magazine and discovered my previously beloved sister Allison is friends with Beyonce and she never bothered to introduce me or invite me to a single party-” *powerpoint slide switches to a picture with Allison’s head photoshopped onto a snake* *Sissy asks who Beyonce is and that turns into another sidetracked explanation that takes nearly two hours and involves Everyone screaming*
- “And this is when Luther went to the moon-”
Ray: “the…moon? the fucking moon?”
Klaus: “didn’t the moon landing happen for you guys yet?”
Allison: “no that was ‘69???”
Klaus: “FUCK”
Luther: “Can you try to go in order? You didn’t even tell them Dad’s an alien yet-”
everyone: W H A T?!!?!?!!?!
- 2004: the tragic beginnings of Vanya’s weaboo stage
- 2006: Diego has his first kiss with an Ambassadors daughter after a mission and IMMEDIATELY pukes on her after they finish. (next slide features news footage of the event; Luther has to hold Diego back from attacking Klaus while everyone else is losing their shit)
- “Klaus I really don’t think Twilight counts as a historical event”
Five: “No, actually, it does-”
- *2 hours spent infodumping about Chernobyl while his audience gets progressively more drunk*
- “Klaus, can we please move on from the 90s already-”
“THEY NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE MEDIA DID TO WINONA RYDER”
- footage of Allison’s Less Than Graceful reaction when she got snubbed at the Oscar’s one year
- at some point he tries to explain Modern Speak™ and Internet Culture™ to them and it ends up going like this:
- “anyway here’s a list of probable war crimes our dad committed”
- *explanation of Ellen DeGeneres’ entire career from start to finish*
- *footage of 14 year old Luther dancing like he got a touchdown after he killed a man in battle*
- Cha Cha Slide: The Song That Changed Everything
- he slips an Entirely Fake historical event in there just to prank them and his siblings try to call him out on it but then Five backs him up because he’s drunk and wants to cause problems. Three Years Later Ray will still mention something about like The Fall Of Telephonia that resulted after a bloody battle between the two rulers and whoever he’s talking to just like. smiles and nods politely
- “And here’s the news clip where 10 year old Five found out on live air that Santa Claus isn’t real. We literally never saw him smile ever again after this”
- he starts explaining Kardashian/Jenner scandals as if they’re political scandals
but anyway. not the most educational lesson plan but I want everyone to have a break and laugh thank you goodnight lmao
if you're feeling stuck, try to remember that life is not static. eventually something will give and make way for change for the better. your lowest point is not your forever, no matter how hard it can be to believe in that moment. good things are coming!
Please, please, please don’t ever let yourself believe that you don’t matter or that the people in your life would be better off without you. You’re so much more loved, so much more valued than you know. Your existence matters and the people in your life are lucky to know you. Don’t forget that.
Writing advice from my uni teachers:
If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.
Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.
Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.
Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.
Write that story because you wanna see it created. Because you wanna read it.
Because in a month or a year or maybe ten years, whenever you come back to read what you wrote, it’s like rediscovering a gift you left for yourself. Like hearing the whispers of a younger you telling a story that feels both new and familiar, wondrous and nostalgic.
So go ahead. Write that story. Write that story, for the you in the future. 📖✨
Is it true that Reginald was only going to name 6 of the kids, and Five chose to be “nameless” so vanya could be named instead?
Not sure if I just heard it somewhere or if it was an actual thing

Once you’ve looked over all those cool links, I have some general advice for you on how you can have some sort of support system going for you:
You may decide to leave home for many different reasons, including:
wishing to live independently
location difficulties – for example, the need to move closer to university
conflict with your parents
being asked to leave by your parents.
It’s common to be a little unsure when you make a decision like leaving home. You may choose to move, but find that you face problems you didn’t anticipate, such as:
Unreadiness – you may find you are not quite ready to handle all the responsibilities.
Money worries – bills including rent, utilities like gas and electricity and the cost of groceries may catch you by surprise, especially if you are used to your parents providing for everything. Debt may become an issue.
Flatmate problems – issues such as paying bills on time, sharing housework equally, friends who never pay board, but stay anyway, and lifestyle incompatibilities (such as a non-drug-user flatting with a drug user) may result in hostilities and arguments.
Think about how your parents may be feeling and talk with them if they are worried about you. Most parents want their children to be happy and independent, but they might be concerned about a lot of different things. For example:
They may worry that you are not ready.
They may be sad because they will miss you.
They may think you shouldn’t leave home until you are married or have bought a house.
They may be concerned about the people you have chosen to live with.
Reassure your parents that you will keep in touch and visit regularly. Try to leave on a positive note. Hopefully, they are happy about your plans and support your decision.
Tips include:
Don’t make a rash decision – consider the situation carefully. Are you ready to live independently? Do you make enough money to support yourself? Are you moving out for the right reasons?
Draw up a realistic budget – don’t forget to include ‘hidden’ expenses such as the property’s security deposit or bond (usually four weeks’ rent), connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.
Communicate – avoid misunderstandings, hostilities and arguments by talking openly and respectfully about your concerns with flatmates and parents. Make sure you’re open to their point of view too – getting along is a two-way street.
Keep in touch – talk to your parents about regular home visits: for example, having Sunday night dinner together every week.
Work out acceptable behaviour – if your parents don’t like your flatmate(s), find out why. It is usually the behaviour rather than the person that causes offence (for example, swearing or smoking). Out of respect for your parents, ask your flatmate(s) to be on their best behaviour when your parents visit and do the same for them.
Ask for help – if things are becoming difficult, don’t be too proud to ask your parents for help. They have a lot of life experience.
Not everyone who leaves home can return home or ask their parents for help in times of trouble. If you have been thrown out of home or left home to escape abuse or conflict, you may be too young or unprepared to cope.
If you are a fostered child, you will have to leave the state-care system when you turn 18, but you may not be ready to make the sudden transition to independence.
If you need support, help is available from a range of community and government organisations. Assistance includes emergency accommodation and food vouchers. If you can’t call your parents or foster parents, call one of the associations below for information, advice and assistance.

Try to solve any problems before you leave home. Don’t leave because of a fight or other family difficulty if you can possibly avoid it.
Draw up a realistic budget that includes ‘hidden’ expenses, such as bond, connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.
Remember that you can get help from a range of community and government organizations.

Keep me updated? xx
it’s honestly crazy how many ppl u meet in your early twenties who have never been in love or been in a relationship or had sex and then you’re like oh it’s actually normal and social milestones actually mean nothing bc everyone is different and has different experiences. cool!
- Diego and Luther share one brain cell (ie: Ölga for Ölga)
- Ben has two brain cells (he is a philosopher and a scholar)
- Ben tries to share one with Klaus, but its often rejected so Klaus has none
- This typically ends with Ben having one and a half brain cells and Klaus having half of one, but then sometimes Klaus has brief moments of genius so Klaus gets two brain cells in those moments (this doesn’t happen a lot)
- Vanya has one brain cell (it’s been through a lot)
- Allison has one brain cell (this brain cell is a mother)
- Sometimes they share
- Five has the other 95 brain cells
- Grace is a perfect being she has 100 brain cells
- Reginald infortunately has a lot of brain cells but he uses them for evil
- Pogo has like 85 (he’s smart but he supports Reginald so that knocks him down a lot)
I don’t know if any of this makes sense but it does to me
Disclaimer, everyone has a different writing process, and that’s okay! But a lot of people never finish their novels because they don’t get through the first draft, and what’s the biggest killer of a first draft? Obsessing over your writing until you hate it.
So take it away. I use a very simple method of having a working document and a master document. I write each chapter on the working document before moving it into the master. The master doc CANNOT be edited unless you need to add something in for the plot. This way, you remove the temptation to edit and you leave it alone.
Then you duplicate the doc, keep the old crappy one, and edit the new one. This way you don’t edit the things you end up cutting, but if you cut something you want back, you still have the original copy.

Sometimes I’ll get really into a show or movie or book or whatever and it’ll be the only thing I post about on my tumblr for weeks
Yes, it is 100% happening rn
The things the Hargreeves each say to Vanya in the brain eating scene match up perfectly with how they see themselves/who they are.
Klaus accuses her of faking it, when we see a performance from him for the entirety of the show. He fakes almost everything the family sees from him.
Luther accuses her of not trying hard enough, and we know that Luther thinks he wasn't a good enough Number One. He pins this on himself completely.
Allison accuses her of using her powers too much and not being able to handle the consequences. This TOTALLY follows with her s1 plotline and her decision to use and use of her powers in s2.
Ben says that she isn't ready and it isn't her fault. This is how Ben views his death, we know from s1.
Diego and Five don't say anything because they don't REALLY know themselves at all. These two have declined getting to know themselves in favor of dedicating themselves to saving others. Diego literally says he doesn't have daddy issues. Diego. And Five does not know who he is without an apocalypse, or what to do with himself when it's over.
I think this is interesting. I dunno. I don't think any of these people (except Ben) ACTUALLY feel this way about Vanya. It's an analysis on them, done by Vanya in Vanya's head, but because Vanya is the way she is, it gets directed at her.
Y’all I think the Carmichael is cool but if I see ANYONE who wants to FUCK THE FISH I’m leaving this fandom and I ain’t looking back

Extracts from Vanya Hargreeves, Extra Ordinary: My Life as Number Seven,[TUA 1X05]
Things to conclude from this extract:
Reginald Hargreeves was an A-grade Bad Dad, whose iron fisted rule ensured the children internalised Vanya’s exclusion from the ‘club’, and would ostracise her from any social activities from a young age. Vanya attributes this in part to the ‘dire situation’ of their childhood under Reginald’s strict tutelage, but cannot forgive their inability to think for themselves.
Five & Vanya: Five was Vanya’s sole confidant, but despite this, she spent years working on something (perhaps practising her violin?) without sharing it with him or anyone else, for fear of rejection and ridicule.
Vanya & the others: perhaps felt intimidated by Allison (did not feel confident enough to ‘engage’ her - in conversation? Confrontation?) and was taunted by Diego.
Vanya ran away: she went so far as to spend all day sitting at a bus stop, wondering if anyone would miss her. However, she lacked the confidence to run away, and returned to the Academy - where no one had noticed she was gone.
Reginald’s Star Pupil: It’s implied Reginald felt the loss of Five acutely, and trained the other children past even the most tenuous ethical guidelines to compensate for his absence. It was not until Ben died, possibly as a result of these experiments, that the others finally started thinking for themselves. However, even now, they did not realise their treatment of Vanya, and did not welcome her ‘into the fold’.
Diego swore at Reginald, probably until he was blue in the face.
Something special: Vanya realised her hopes for reconciliation with her siblings were ultimately empty. All those ‘extraordinary’ people in her life were still cruel, even without Reginald’s guiding hand. But for Vanya, it was a moment of epiphany. Where her violin had once been an embarrassment in comparison to the talents of her siblings, it was now something special all its own.
Something else to consider: Why is this (the part about his own preteen angst and disappearance) the passage Five reads as he considers the error in his calculations? Is it a fixed point in time? Is this the ‘quantum state version’ of himself he projected himself into?
I found a stack of old pictures in the attic, everyone in them looks really happy…
I love how the Hargreeves don't give a sh*t for who their siblings love, like, "Vanya is in love with a farm woman with a husband and a son? Well good for her, hope she is happy. Klaus loves a soldier he met in Vietnam that doesn't even no him yet? Kinda sad but adorable bro. Diego is in love with the girl who just tried to kill their entire family? Whatever, hope it works out. Luther is in love with his sister? Well jokes will be made, but you do you man. Five is f*cking a mannequin? Literally the healthiest relationship, call us for the wedding."
Literally the only relationship anyone ever judged was Vanya and Leonard, and they were right.
i just found them utterly delightful this season
little things i never want to forget about the hargreeves:
all of them used to defy their father, sneak out to griddy’s, and in five’s own words “eat donuts until we puked. simpler times, eh?”
luther wrote poetry while he was on the moon, especially about comets
tom hopper and the UA crew have said that the scratches all over luther’s body were made by him. he couldn’t stand the loneliness, especially during that first year, and would often resort to harming himself as a way to vent his frustration
it’s also pretty likely that he’s had body dysmorphia at one point or another
he also has a habit of stress eating
diego almost became a detective, but he dropped out because he wasn’t good at following orders. he even went to police academy!!!
diego has the cross stitch grace made specifically for him on the wall of his basement apartment, and in a frame no less
he’s also a big-ass momma’s boy
and he’s the only one grace calls “silly” as a term of endearment
and he has a fear of needles due to getting that tattoo when they were kids (y’all know which one i’m talking about)
plus his stutter only comes out when he’s under extreme emotional stress
and a close rewatch of 1X03 shows that his bedroom had an overflowing abundance of books so what if him and ben used to bond over that😭
allison speaks seven languages
she told her daughter about her siblings, and claire obviously knew them well enough that she was calling them "uncle” and “aunty,” and that last one is especially heartwarming because this was around the time that vanya’s book had just come out, and yet, allison–who has the option of never telling claire about her–still does, and even explains why she wasn’t allowed to go on missions
klaus was smoking blunts at fourteen
klaus was clutching dave’s dogtags right before five teleported all of them to the past
and i’ve noticed that he has a habit of doing that in general in season 2, especially when he’s feeling kind-of low, but sometimes it’s also an unconscious habit and that’s cute, too
klaus would write the things the dead would say to him, all over his bedroom wall
klaus has a habit of going barefoot whenever he’s at home
five was the only person vanya felt comfortable enough with to present new violin pieces to
five outright says that everything he’s done so far was to get back to his family and keep them safe
@me-evil-never wrote in the tags: “five has watched his family die/be dead like 3 times if i’m counting correctly (YES YOU ARE AND IT’S A PAINFUL FACT WE MUST ALL LIVE WITH), plus all he has ever done in his life since age 13 was to get back to them so he could spend time safely with them” and YES I AGREE why would you hide such an excellent point in the tags because, sometimes, even i forget that it’s only been two weeks for him, and they’re probably the roughest he’s had since being stuck in the apocalypse as an actual child, and idk about you guys, but i just really want to give five a big hug because lord knows he deserves needs it
allison used to paint klaus’ nails during meals
and was apparently a daddy’s girl, though how one could become a “daddy’s girl” if the father in question was reginald hargreeves is beyond my capacity to understand
ben was reading chekhov as early as 14
ben was a bookworm, both in life and death
vanya had the smallest room
vanya openly called ben the kindest of their siblings in her book, and said that when he died, none of them had any more reason to stay
before he left, diego gave reggie a piece of his mind
all of them know how to dance
they all know how to speak and read greek (ancient fucking greek, as one of you oh-so-eloquently put it)
vanya knows how to speak russian and god knows how many other languages
(by this point i’m really convinced they’re all multilingual and there just hasn’t been an opportunity for them to utilize that yet)
she also has a mr. snuggles teddy bear
according to klaus, vanya used to cry when the others would step on ants as kids
klaus is pansexual
he also dated twins once (though i’m not sure if he dated one then the other or both at the exact same time)
and has mild claustrophobia from being locked up in mausoleums all the time as a child
diego swore a pinky promise with lila and called it “the pinkiest promise” he’d ever make, and even though he’s a hard-ass who won’t hesitate to cut anybody in half, he’s still at his gentlest when he’s around her and he doesn’t even try to hide it
off her meds, vanya got first chair and a solo on her first try (as a violinist in a professional orchestra, lemme tell you that this is no easy feat to do)
she also seemed to have an affinity for bach (again–not easy!!)
even though he was barely out of puberty, ben was smart enough to reprogram allison’s teddy bear to say “luther smells dad’s underwear.”
upon possessing klaus for a few minutes in season 2, ben could be seen clutching various flowers and smelling them repeatedly
klaus can actually levitate in the comics
according to @valkerymillenia, ghost!ben once saved klaus’ life in the comics after he overdosed on heroin yet again
both klaus and diego repeatedly tried to open the lock to vanya’s old anechoic chamber and were absolutely furious when luther wouldn’t let them
diego called elliott “one of ours” despite knowing him for all of a week and a half
he also calls herb “herbie,” calmed him down after accidentally drawing a weapon on him, and created a secret handshake with him, all within two hours tops of meeting him
if one really thinks about it, diego is actually good with people? and that makes sense because he left the academy as early as seventeen, and he would’ve had to talk to a lot of people just to make ends meet that first year alone, and even though reggie tried to squash that part of him down, he’s still a good person at heart, you go prince of pointy things, make us all proud

1) this is so inspired by @the-rivendell-librarian and @himbohargreeves for the whole baby hargreeves wholesome family idea.
2) this is also from an au that never lifted off because I cannot write, but I also can’t draw babies.
The Hargreeves: Why didn’t you ever tell us Ben was here!?
Klaus: ...
Klaus: You thought I was talking to mySELF THIS WHOLE TIME!?
Klaus: I pulled out chairs for him.
Klaus: I poured him coffee.
Klaus: I asked him what he wanted to eat.
Klaus: I literally hissed at him!
The Hargreeves: ... we just kind of thought you were like that tho
